A French expedition led by Maurice Herzog accomplished this legendary feat in 1950. The journey to the high elevation Annapurna Base Camp begins in the lush lowlands and passes through fertile farmland and picturesque villages. Eventually it reaches the remote upper portion of the Modi River Valley. Along the way, we can experience the lifestyle of the local people in their rural homeland. A majority of people in this region are of the Gurung ethnicity. We hike ever closer to the peaks as we ascend the valley and thick jungles of bamboo and rhododendron (Nepal’s national flower) with many beautiful waterfalls. We start with a brief, scenic drive from the lakeside destination of Pokhara. The trekking start point is about 800 m (2,625 ft) above sea level and we eventually climb to over 4,000 m (13, 123 ft), the elevation of Base Camp. Along the whole route, we experience a wide range of landscape and beauty and jaw dropping panoramas. We finally enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Base Camp in and unforgettable setting. Eventually, we return back through the lush valley, refreshing at a hot springs on the way back to the road and our trek starting point. A vehicle will meet us there for ride back to Pokhara.
