Langtang trek

Langtang Valley, Gosainkkunda Lake and Helambu This trek combines three great trekking destinations in one. Ultimately, it connects the spectacular Langtang Valley with the serene Helambu Region. It involves a challenging high pass known as the Laurabina La (4609 m / 15,111 ft) nearby a mountain lake that is sacred to Hindus, Gosainkunda Lake. The trek to Langtang Valley is the first part of this trek and one of the top three classic treks of Nepal. The exciting route leads up a lush river valley and into a glacier-formed valley in barren highlands surrounded by peaks. The wide diversity of landscape and beautiful mountains views make for a special journey that will be memorable and enjoyable every step of the way. The Langtang Trek is one of the closest trekking areas to Kathmandu. We start the journey with a beautiful drive through green hills and fertile farmland. The road then follows the Trishuli River Valley and eventually reaches the vehicle dropoff point of Syabrubesi, a lively village near the confluence of two rivers. The route follows up the fertile Langtang River Valley, home to unique wildlife including the elusive red panda and more. On the journey we will visit remote villages surrounded by terraced farmland and populated mainly by people of the Tamang ethnicity. Eventually we work our way up to the glacial formed highlands and a broad valley surrounded by soaring peaks. The beauty is jaw dropping. The last settlement is known as Kyangjin Gomba and named for a famous monastery located above the lodges. It is still functional and very busy during festival times. There is also a cheese factory here and a chance to take a tour of the facilities and try cheese samples. From Kyangjin Gomba we have several additional options for day hikes and greater exploration. We then return back down the Langtang River Valley before taking a side trail that reaches Sing Gomba with another famous monastery and famous cheese factory. From Sing Gomba, the trail continues to a high elevation lake considered to be a favorite meditation place of Shiva, Gosainkunda Lake. The scenery and views there are jaw dropping, especially around sunset. The hike continues as we ascend from Gosainkunda and cross over the Lauerbina La mountain pass. The trail descends through remote territory and passes through picturesque villages in the scenic Helambu Region. We visit remote monasteries and descend through beautiful jungles and terraced farmland. The Helambu region is the closest trekking area to Kathmandu. The exhilarating trek is a wonderful chance to get close the Himalaya with less of the crowds.
